Ranging from a single instrument to an entire symphony orchestra, The PlainsSong Project is dedicated to the idea that music, with its limitless possibilities, is a positive force that creates lasting bonds, strengthens the community, and enriches the lives of anybody with a beating heart. The group is dynamic to meet the needs of the show, creating unique live performances as well as collaborating with and accompanying any and every variety of musician of any genre.

Founded by Tom Hagerman (Devotchka) and Mackenzie Miller (Denver Violins), The PlainsSong Project offers an infinite range of opportunities for live music, recording sessions, custom musical arrangements, original compositions, and collaboration.

Tom Hagerman

Tom Hagerman is a Denver based composer, arranger, educator and musician best known for his multi-instrumentalist role in the Grammy nominated rock band, Devotchka.  He has performed on many recordings including those by M Ward, She and Him, Nathaniel Rateliff, Bettye Lavette, Eric Bachman, Calexico, and Sage Francis.  As an arranger and orchestrator, he has worked closely with a variety of groups including, The Colorado Symphony, The Flaming Lips, The Lumineers,  Amos Lee, Gregory Alan Isakov, Trampled By Turtles, Ingrid Michaelson, Lettuce, and Opiuo.  He has written original music for theater and dance, including performances by Wonderbound and the Colorado Symphony of "The 7 Deadly Sins", "De Troya" by Dallas based Cara Mia Theatre, and performances of Shakespeare's, "The 12th Night" and "Much Ado About Nothing" for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.  His latest projects include Grande Orquesta Navarre, a collaborative Nuevo Tango chamber ensemble, and “Modern Victims”, a collection of pop songs recorded under the banner “Post Truth Serum”.  Tom is a graduate of the music school at the University of Colorado in violin performance, and is a product of music education in public schools.

Mackenzie Miller

As a musician and an entrepreneur, Mackenzie Miller combines her passions for music and business through the companies she leads, including Denver Violins, The Guad Society, and The PlainsSong Project.

 

Mack has a background in business and analytics, with previous leadership roles for Ford Motor Co, Vail Resorts, and Ibotta, and a Graduate Certificate in Business Intelligence from Colorado State University. ​She is also an avid musician, playing violin in many groups in the Denver area. 

Makenzie was fortunate to grow up in the music and arts loving community of Saline, Michigan. She learned to love both classical and bluegrass from a young age, and toured worldwide with the Saline Fiddler's Philharmonic playing with acts such as Nickel Creek, Sam Bush, Byron Berline, Natalie MacMasters, Marc O'Connor, and more.

Now rooted in Colorado, Mackenzie lives in a music filled world with her husband, Eddy (Eduard Miller Violins) and their two Dobies, Reyna and Zoe.
